How Soon After Failed FET Can I Try Again

1. What is the Pregnancy Success Rate of Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)?

Freezing embryos does not usually affect the success rate. In fact, the chances for success can be higher with a frozen embryo than with a fresh embryo IVF cycle. One study found that women over 44 experienced a 1.7% success rate with fresh cycles and 9.2% with thawing cycles.

The same study found that from 2010 to 2019, the live birth rate of frozen embryos increased by 50 percent, while the live birth rate of fresh embryos increased by only 1 percent during the same period. Of course, many factors affect the success of FET, including:

. The quality and genetic content of the embryo

. Environmental factors

. Uterine factors

. Infectious factors

2. What Factors Affect the Success of IVF?

If you have experienced IVF failure, you should not lose hope. After consulting with your fertility doctor, you can try again to achieve successful IVF cycle results.

The success of your embryo transfer depends on the following factors:

. Embryo quality

. Uterine health

. Number of eggs retrieved

. Quantity and quality of sperm cells

. Age of the female partner

3. Why Does IVF Fail?

After transfer, there may be several reasons why a cycle may fail. While doctors take all necessary measures to prevent a failed cycle, they cannot prevent or fix what happens after the transfer.

. The egg and sperm used to create the embryo were not of high quality.

. The embryo has a genetic or chromosomal abnormality.

. The embryo was not able to hatch and implant.

. The uterine lining was not receptive enough for the embryo.

. Lifestyle factors such as exercise intensity, diet, or substance use can negatively affect treatment at any stage, including what happens after transfer.

. Immunological problems can attack the embryo and cause implantation failure.

After a failed IVF transfer, the various reasons listed above can be carefully investigated and the information can lead to a more successful cycle next time.
