I am about to start a rtw trip from Ireland and hoping to visit Iran in late Aug / Sept. I have read that international bank cards will not work and to bring cash in and exchange it. Is it better to exchange euro rather than other currencies? I will be in Georgia / Azerbaijan before I fly into Tehran so I’m wondering should I carry over lets say €1000 for my trip or should I take €1000 out in azerbijani manat and convert that when I fly to Tehran. I don’t really want to be carrying around all my cash in euro for 2 months before I need it in Iran but will do it if required.
Euro is changed so easily and everywhere. As you said exchange rates are different. Banks do exchange at official rate of central bank which is lower than free market. But in tehran,shiraz oo mashad you must know only exchange at banks is legal and exchange at other places is illegal and exchange agencies also are banned to exchange. At the airport there are 3 banks which exchange your money at official rate. As you said It’s better to exchange some money there to pay your taxi fare.
