Laser liposuction (lipo laser) is a recently developed cosmetic procedure that is performed to contour those areas of the body that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is definitely not a weight control method or a fix for obesity but can remove fat cells from some really difficult areas.

Laser liposuction surgery

As opposed to the surgical procedure (tummy tuck) the laser liposuction is a risk- free procedure ideal for both men and women aged from 17 and above.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and lasts for 2 to 3 hours depending on the intended region. The technique is more commonly used to treat more delicate regions such as the neck and the face

Depending on the intended region, the surgeon will make tiny incisions for the narrow laser probe to fit in and this will require no sutures.

The laser probe will be inserted into the incisions and precise targeting is used to rupture the fat cells with the help of the laser energy. Coagulation in the surrounding tissues will occur, which will stimulate the natural collagen production, which gives the skin a youthful tone and a better texture. The skin will also get tightened at the end of the procedure.

Is laser lipo or CoolSculpting better?

  • Laser liposuction

Laser lipo can be performed in your doctor’s office under local anesthesia. No general anesthesia is required.

It’s a safe option for people with different skin types and causes few side effects.

You’ll be awake during the procedure. Your clinician will numb the area with a needle and local anesthetic so you don’t feel discomfort.

They’ll make a small incision and insert a tiny laser under the skin that liquefies the fat. Then your clinician will insert a tiny tube, called a cannula, that sucks the melted fat out from beneath the skin.

Many people who opt for laser lipo don’t experience a long period of downtime after the procedure, particularly when the site is small.

Most clinicians recommend a few days of downtime before returning to work and around three weeks before participating in strenuous activities.

Swelling, bruising, and pain is minimal after laser lipo. For many people, the skin might also be firmer or tighter after the procedure. This is because the laser treatments can promote the production of collagen.

All types of liposuction were among the top five cosmetic surgeries performed on men and women in the United States in 2016 and 2017, notes the American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2017 report. Available variations of laser lipo (based on specific machines) include:

  • CoolLipo
  • LipoLite
  • LipoTherme
  • LipoControl
  • ProLipo Plus
  • SmartLipo

  • CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a noninvasive fat-reduction procedure that works to freeze fat cells.

Your clinician will place the CoolSculpting applicator on the area they’re going to treat. It’ll likely feel very cold for the first several minutes, and you may feel a sucking or pulling sensation. Then, the area will become numb while the treatment is performed.

After the procedure, the frozen fat cells die and are processed away and absorbed by your body over a period of several weeks to two months. The procedure isn’t meant for individuals who have excessive weight. Instead, it’s meant for individuals of a healthy weight who have stubborn pockets of fat on their bodies that aren’t affected by diet and exercise.

How effective is laser liposuction?

Laser lipo and CoolSculpting are safe and effective treatments for fat removal. Many people feel satisfied with the results of laser liposuction, especially compared with other fat removal methods.

For example, a trial in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy found that 61% of people were very satisfied with the results of lipolysis. In comparison, 55.5% of people who underwent traditional liposuction were either neutral or dissatisfied with their results.

Does Laser Lipo permanently remove fat?

The great thing about this treatment is that it permanently zaps fat cells, giving you long-lasting results as long as you don’t gain a significant amount of weight. Most of the fat cells are removed during treatment, and the remaining fat cells in the targeted area will gradually drain from the body over the following six or eight weeks. The best way to maintain your new shape after treatment is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a careful diet. Otherwise, it’s possible to gain the weight back by producing new fat cells or expanding the cells that remain.

How many inches can I lose with laser lipo?

Most patients can expect to lose an average of 1 to 2 inches from the waist with this liposuction treatment alone. In fact, on virtually every major body area that is treated, you can anticipate snipping about one inch from the girth of your limbs, such as the arms and the thighs.

However, some people lose more inches than that. There are studies that indicate patients who have particularly high body mass can lose between 5 to 10 inches of fat with repeated treatments. Depending on your exact body composition, the potential to lose multiple inches from your waist is high.

Though some clients begin to notice results after only a few sessions, most require 6–8 treatments to see maximum results.

How does laser lipo work?

Unlike conventional liposuction, the idea of noninvasive laser lipo is not to remove fat cells, but to shrink them.

During each session of i-Lipo the brand of laser-lipo device Advanced Laser Body Care uses a technician places pads equipped with laser diodes directly onto the skin. The laser energy penetrates down to the fat cells and creates tiny holes in their membranes. This causes the fat cells to release their stored fatty acids, glycerol, and water into the body and then shrink, potentially resulting in lost inches. The body then flushes out the expelled fat-cell contents via the lymphatic system or burns them for energy.

Is lipo or laser lipo better?

Although the function of both traditional and laser liposuction is to remove fat deposits, laser liposuction is best for mild to moderate fat removal plus skin tightening, while traditional, surgical liposuction can eliminate larger amounts of fat. Traditional liposuction cannot tighten the skin like laser body contouring can.

  • There are big differences in discomfort and safety between traditional and laser liposuction.

Discomfort is higher in traditional liposuction, hands down. Incisions must be made and then sutured closed. Sometimes drains are also inserted and removed a few days after the procedure. With laser body contouring, the cannula is much thinner, often requiring no incisions at all, just tiny insertion points that will heal with nothing more than a steri-strip or a small band-aid. Traditional lipo usually requires going under general anesthesia, making the procedure more expensive and adding the risk of anesthesia-related complications. Laser lipo is performed under Comfort Calm Local Anesthesia; you’ll be awake, alert and comfortable during the procedure.

  • The differences in results from laser vs traditional liposuction

Laser liposuction provides a level of skin tightening that does not occur with traditional liposuction. The high-energy beams of laser liposuction penetrate into the skin and heats up the innermost structures, stimulating new collagen and elastin growth in the skin. This creates better skin function and appearance, which improves over time. Less fat + better skin is, in our minds, the definition of a great result!

Another difference between laser and traditional liposuction is the timing of results. Traditional liposuction patients see results immediately. Laser liposuction patients will also see a change immediately, with more changes occurring over several months, as the collagen and elastin proliferate to smooth out the skin.

Does laser lipo make you lose weight?

On average, the majority of patients who use this treatment can expect to lose about 25 pounds from their total body weight. Losing this much weight is equivalent to at least one pant size, but depending on the distribution of your desired body fat removal, losing roughly 25 pounds will give you an overall slimmer appearance.
