Tympanoplasty surgery in Iran

Tympanoplasty surgery Iran

Tympanoplasty in iran, also known as eardrum repair, is a surgical procedure to fix a perforated or opened tympanic membrane, or the small bones in the middle of the ear, caused due to a chronic infection or an external injury. Myringoplasty, tympanoplasty and ossiculoplasty are few of the most common types of eardrum repair and the recovery is quite quick, however, there may be some complications, which are rare.

A person who is having hearing difficulties or pain in the ear, feels a kind of sensation in one or both ears or suffered from a head injury that causes other hearing issues may get assistance from tympanoplasty. It can be caused due to ear infections, trauma or repeated surgery that has caused a hole in the eardrum. Such damage may result in complete hearing loss from one or both ear and further increase the infections, hence tympanoplasty is needed to recover from such conditions.

During Tympanoplasty surgery

You will be given local or general anesthesia to numb the area of operation or to put you to sleep. The kind of tympanoplasty procedure will be chosen depending on the severity of the defect. If the perforation is small, a small incision will be made into the ear canal and the remaining eardrum will be uplifted away from the canal. The surgeon uses a microscope to enlarge the view of the structure to perform the operation.

However, if the hole is large, the incision is made behind the ear, which brings the entire ear forward and gives the surgeon a full access to the perforation. The perforated remnant is then rotated forward to get a clear view of the bones of hearing. The scar tissues are removed from a laser or micro hooks and the remaining tissues are taken from the tragus, the back of the ear or from a vein. Once done, an absorbable gelatin sponge is used to support the graft, which is then inserted under the remaining remnant and in the perforation to fill the gap. In order to place the graft in its place and prevent it from sliding, a very thin sheeting is placed over the graft, so that it won’t slide out when the patient sneezes. The incision is then closed with stitches and a sterile patch is positioned outside the ear canal.

2Is Tympanoplasty a major surgery?
Tympanoplasty (say "tim-PAN-oh-plass-tee") is surgery to repair a hole in the eardrum. The surgery may have been done to improve hearing or to stop frequent ear infections that did not get better with other treatments. You may feel dizzy for a few days after surgery.
3What is the success rate of tympanoplasty?
Surgical success was defined as an intact membrane after two years follow-up and hearing improvement of at least 15 decibels. The success rate of the tympanoplasties was 90%. A functioning eustachian tube was found to be important for graft take.
4What is the difference between Myringoplasty and tympanoplasty?
As nouns the difference between tympanoplasty and myringoplasty. is that tympanoplasty is (surgery) reconstructive surgery to the middle ear or eardrum while myringoplasty is (surgery) the closure of the perforation of pars tensa of the tympanic membrane.
5What can you not do after tympanoplasty?
Please use ear plugs or a cotton ball dipped in Vaseline® when showering/washing hair. If surgery was done to improve hearing there may not be a noticeable change until 8-12 weeks after surgery. Avoid nose blowing for 2 weeks following surgery. Encourage your child to sneeze with his/her mouth open.
6What is a Tympanotomy procedure?
Exploratory tympanotomy refers to the surgical approach to the middle ear and its structures for diagnosis. The steps of exploratory tympanotomy are the same as those that would precede transcanal middle ear surgery, such as stapedectomy or removal of a small glomus tympanicum tumor.
7How long does it take to recover from tympanoplasty?
Full tympanoplasty surgery recovery time can be 2 to 3 months. In fact, the hearing will probably be worse than it was before surgery until this packing dissolves. At the first postoperative visit, your doctor may gently clean the ear canal with a vacuum in order to inspect the reconstructed eardrum.
8Does Tympanoplasty improve hearing?
Most patients enjoy improvement of their hearing after successful tympanoplasty but scar tissue formation, Eustachian tube problems and problems with the bones in the middle ear can result in on-going hearing loss. The hearing can rarely be worse after surgery. Conductive, sensorineural or mixed hearing loss may occur.
9How long does it take for an eardrum to heal after surgery?
Recovering from surgery for a perforated eardrum. It usually takes a few weeks for your eardrum to heal. A follow-up appointment for about two or three weeks after your operation will be arranged before or soon after leaving hospital.
10What happens if your eardrum has a hole?
A tear in the eardrum can allow bacteria and other things to get into the middle ear and inner ear. If that happens, an infection could develop that can cause more hearing loss. Most perforated eardrums heal in a few weeks. Sometimes, though, doctors need to do surgery to repair the tear.
