What Would Cause a Bad Smell in Your Nose?
Feeling of bad smell inside of the nose during the first two weeks or first month after Rhinoplasty is usually due to secretions and remained clots from the surgery and can be corrected by washing the inside of the nose by serum.
If the bad smell of the nose persists for more than 3 months, other causes can be considered. The main reason of the bad smell after rhinoplasty is remaining of non-dissolvable or permanent stitches inside the nose which causes a very fine pathway inside the nasal cavity space and subcutaneous space for microbes to enter and cause small microscopic infections and bad smell.
These small infections do not cause additional problems more than this bad smell. The treatment is the frequent washing of the inside of the nose with serum and periodic use of antibiotics under the physician’s supervision. As the time passes and with the help of natural defense system of the body, this problem will be fixed automatically.
Other rare causes of bad smell inside the nose after rhinoplasty is remaining of the external thing like tampon or splint inside the nose. Therefore, it is highly advised to the patients to be examined by their own surgeon.
There are also very rare reasons like infection due to permeation of the nasal mucosa under the nasal skin, sinus infection after surgery or infection of the internal structure of the nose.

First and foremost, check-in with your doctor and determine the main cause of the smell so that you can be sure the cause is not infection. If you manage to rule out infection or you are still in the early stages of recovery, regular nasal douche and steam inhalations will help.
