Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Also Known As Follicle-stimulating Hormone Follitropin
Formal Name Follicle-stimulating Hormone, serum or urine
What is being tested?
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a hormone associated with reproduction and the development of eggs in women and sperm in men. This test measures FSH in the blood or urine.
FSH is made by the pituitary gland, a grape-sized organ located at the base of the brain. Control of FSH production is a complex system involving the hypothalamus in the brain, the pituitary gland, and the hormones produced by the ovaries or testicles.
PRL
A prolactin (PRL) test measures how much of a hormone calledprolactin you have in your blood. The hormone is made in your pituitary gland, which is located just below your brain. When women are pregnant or have just given birth, their prolactin levels increase so they can make breast milk.
