How big do breasts need to be for reduction?

The difficulty in obtaining accurate and reproducible measurements of the female breast arises from its diversity of size and shape. The lack of a standardized protocol for measurement of the breast has made it difficult to assess post-operative results objectively. A method that allows for reliable estimation of breast size would be beneficial in procedures such as reduction mammoplasty.

Historically, breast volume has been measured using a number of techniques. These include water displacement, casting, biostereometric analysis using wide-angle stereometric cameras, and direct measurement using various devices, recently three-dimensional imaging has been used to calculate breast volume. However, none of the methods has attracted enough popularity for routine use in a clinical setting.

The most common method of describing breast size, however, relies on the conventional brassiere sizing system. It has the advantage of being easily obtainable and readily understood by patients. The shortcomings of this system are well documented.

  1. Hi I had this question it might seem unnatural to ask but please allow me to write it down anyway… can you tell me the Lowest size of breast reduction? is there a norm?

    1. Hello, this is not to be answered exactly. Actually, the minimum size for breast reduction is very proportional. Usually, 2-3kg of breast tissue is often removed in those with bigger breasts, and in reduction cases, which may mean a size reduction from a cup G to a DD, instead of a B or C. You have to keep in mind that a breast reduction not only will make your breasts more smallish, but they will be more delicate, healthier, and more vibrant regardless of the resulting cup size.

    1. Hello. Commonly, the reduction in breast size is between one and two cups. However, if a woman has large breasts so that the feeling of pressure in the neck and discomfort troubles her, surgeons can reduce her breast size by several cups. The minimum size for breast reduction is determined based on the location of the nipple. As long as the height of the nipple is close to the height of the inframammary fold, the breast can be reduced.
