All you should know about vaser liposuction surgery

What is vaser liposuction?

Vaser liposuction in Iran, also known as Lipo Vaser, is an alternative to the traditional liposuction and lipomatic. It differs from liposuction in the way that liposuction is a process by which people tend to lose weight while the Vaser liposuction is generally undergone by a person in good physical condition. Vaser liposuction is availed by people who are looking for contouring or body sculpting.

This treatment uses ultrasound energy to melt fat and this fat is removed through a thin tube called cannula. This process, therefore, makes it easy to remove fat and is most useful to be used in areas which have larger volumes and denser fats. This method utilizes a lesser aggressive approach and therefore makes it easy for a person to recover. It is not essentially to lose fat but to address fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. In other words, Vaser liposuction is a procedure which is used to change the contours and shape of the body by removing persistent fat deposits.

Vaser stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It is a specialized ultrasound technology used to break down fat cells by sending out ultrasonic frequency waves. Once the fat cells have been broken down, the cosmetic surgeon is able to remove excess fat through a suction process (the liposuction part of the procedure). The ultrasound technology used during a vaser liposuction procedure comes with certain benefits, compared to traditional liposuction procedures.

Vaser Liposuction can be performed on a variety of areas of the body suffering from areas of stubborn fat. Popular areas include:

. Abdomen / Tummy

. Inner and Outer Thighs

. Buttocks and Hips

. Flanks or Love Handles

. Male Chest

. Breasts

. Neck and Chin

. Back

. Arms

. Knees and Ankles

Vaser liposuction vs. traditional liposuction procedures

One of the major benefits of vaser liposuction compared to traditional liposuction methods, is the minimal amount of damage to surrounding tissues. Vaser liposuction uses a smaller incision and soundwaves to liquefy the fat before it is removed from the body. Liquefying the fat has the potential to increase the accuracy of the procedure and make the fat easier to remove. In addition to that, it could also minimize the damage inflicted upon surrounding tissues.

Fat cells removed during a vaser liposuction are specifically targeted which allows the surgeon to provide the patient with a smoother and a more sculpted end result. During the procedure, the surgeon is able to highlight and define certain muscles, which give the patient a more noticeable result. The procedure can also tighten the skin and target cellulite, since a combination of ultrasound and laser techniques can be implemented during the procedure.

Both traditional liposuction and Vaser liposuction techniques have the same goal. They are both body contouring procedures that sculpt the body by removing stubborn fat. The main difference between them however, is that Vaser lipo uses ultrasound energy to break apart stubborn fat, whereas traditional liposuction methods rely on moving a cannula back and forth to manually break apart the fat before removing it.

By using ultrasound energy, Vaser liposuction can target areas of fat more precisely, and therefore tends to be more useful for patients with smaller areas of stubborn fat that need sculpting.

Before vaser liposuction procedure

Think carefully about whether you want to have this procedure and talk about it with friends and family. If you decide you want to go ahead, then search for an experienced surgeon, check their credentials and schedule a consultation with them.

On the day of your appointment, be prepared with any questions or concerns. Talk about where you want to have vaser liposuction, what you would like to achieve, how the procedure is performed, how to look after yourself afterwards and the risks involved. Take a list of medications you are taking and your medical history and ask if you are a suitable candidate.

Vaser liposuction Risks and Side effects

There are risks with any surgical procedure, and Vaser liposuction is no different. While the majority of cases go smoothly, it is important to be informed of the potential complications and discuss them with your surgeon.

. Allergic reactions – in rare cases, patients have had local allergies to the material used in tape or sutures or to topical preparations, or more serious, systemic allergies to drugs used during or after the procedure.

. Bleeding – unusual, but possible, this may occur during or after surgery and could warrant emergency treatment. Your doctor will discuss things you should avoid (e.g. aspirin) leading up to your surgery to reduce the risk of bleeding.

. Skin sensation – your skin may experience a temporary reduction in sensation after Vaser liposuction, but this usually resolves itself. However, it has been known not to resolve and in rare cases could involve a complete loss of sensation following lipoplasty procedures.

. Chronic pain – unusual after this type of operation.

. Infection – infections are unlikely after liposuction, but if one occurs, antibiotics or further surgery may be needed.

. Scarring – while VASER lipo involves small incisions and optimises healing, occasionally abnormal scars will form in the skin and deeper tissues, which may be unattractive and patients may choose further surgery to correct this.

. Pulmonary complications – complications involving the lungs are extremely rare, but potentially life-threatening. Droplets of fat can, in very rare cases, become trapped in the lungs (fat embolism syndrome), while blood clots (pulmonary emboli) and a partial collapse of the lung can occur after general anaesthesia. Either of these complications could prove fatal and require immediate treatment.

. Seroma – a build-up of fluid under the skin, which may need to be drained. Seromas are less common after Vaser lipo than after most other liposuction procedures.

It is also important to manage expectations. Each patient is different, with some being better-suited to Vaser liposuction than others. It is important to consider:

. The candidate – Vaser Lipo may not be ideal for those with poor skin tone, obesity, or other medical problems.

. Expectations – it may be unrealistic to expect your ideal body contours due to factors other than the fat that will be removed.

. Asymmetry – factors such as skin tone, muscle tone, and bone structure may create a natural asymmetry in the body that cannot be made symmetrical simply by removing fat.

. Long-term effects – body contours can change over time even after the procedure, due to ageing, changes in weight, pregnancy, or other circumstances.

Who is an ideal candidate for vaser liposuction?

. Vaser liposuction is a procedure that is suitable for both men and women.

. They must already be their target weight and have a healthy lifestyle. If they don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle after their liposuction procedure, they will not get the desired results. Vaser liposuction will not help you lose weight or keep it off.

. They must be prepared to continue a healthy lifestyle via diet and exercise post the procedure.

. They have comparatively durable skin tone and be in good health.

Suitable for those that would like to:

. Lose a few inches around their thighs, waist, hips or waist

. Tighten loose skin following natural weight loss

. Add some definition without weight loss.

Who should not have vaser liposuction?

. If the individual is not healthy, they may be at greater risks for vaser liposuction complications compared to a healthy person. For example, there is a higher risk of surgical complications if they have a previous medical history of cardiac arrhythmias, immunodeficiency disorders, excessive bleeding, seizure disorders or a substantial history of or pulmonary emboli (blood clots of the lungs) or deep vein thrombosis (blood clots of the legs).

. Taking certain medications may increase the risk of bleeding such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin, or anticoagulants such as Coumadin (warfarin). In these situations, vaser liposuction is not a safe option.

. Taking medications that impede the metabolism of lidocaine, the local anaesthetic used in this procedure, also increases risks unless the individual can stop use of this medication at least two weeks prior to surgery.

. Vaser liposuction is not a proven solution for obesity. The patient will be disappointed if they expect vaser liposuction to be an effective means of removing a large amount of weight permanently.

. Those that do not have good skin elasticity are not suitable candidates for this surgery.  However, some patients with poor skin elasticity are happy with the results even with the slightly wrinkled look of the skin.

. Pregnant or breastfeeding women cannot have the surgery.

During Vaser Liposuction procedure

Vaser Liposuction is a procedure that uses ultrasound to emulsify fat, before removing it. It requires an injection of fluid beforehand containing a local anaesthetic diluted in saline, which reduces discomfort and bruising.

A small incision is made in the skin and a grooved, metal probe is inserted, which uses ultrasound waves to gently loosen and break down fatty deposits. A hollow metal implement called a cannula is inserted to remove the emulsified fat using a vacuum.

Vaser Lipo is unique among liposuction techniques in that it targets and dissolves fat cells using ultrasound, rather than manual movement, water pressure, or a laser, then removes the emulsified fat cells without disrupting the collagen matrix. It minimises trauma and bruising due to surgery and reduces the risk of complications and post-operative pain, while optimising skin retraction.

Your doctor may recommend that you donate a unit of your blood before the procedure in case you need a blood transfusion afterwards.

How much fat can be taken with Vaser lipo?

There are limits to how much fatty tissue can be safely taken from the body within one Vaser Lipo session. This depends on your general health, weight and your body fat percentage. There is also a limit as to how much local anaesthetic (Lidocaine) can safely be uses in a single treatment session. Lidocaine toxicity is a serious complication and needs to be taken very seriously.

We normally advise no more than about 3.5-4 litres or 4-5% of your body weight removed during one session. If more fat needs to be removed or the treatment is limited by a maximum lidocaine dosage another Vaser Lipo treatment can be performed 1-6 weeks later. Excessive and overly aggressive removal of fat can be dangerous to your health and lead to seromas, burns, contour irregularities and abnormal looking results that are near impossible to correct. Treatments require experience and an understanding of the body’s response to such treatments so if necessary, we believe it is better to have a touch up treatment to optimise your results, rather than risk serious health consequences or permanent deformities due to excessive or overly aggressive liposuction.

Vaser Liposuction is not intended as a weight loss solution. The goal is to create a slimmer silhouette. You may not notice a significant amount of weight loss, but you should be pleased with your slimmer new shape.

After vaser liposuction procedure
Vaser liposuction Recovery

After vaser liposuction, the area that has undergone liposuction will be dressed, perhaps with a compression garment to reduce swelling, provide support and promote healing. This may also help the skin to adapt to fitting the new body contours.

Vaser liposuction can be used alongside other surgical techniques or as a single treatment for body contouring. It is particularly useful for patients who have excess fat in particular areas of the body, but are otherwise a normal weight. If structures other than fat are causing the body contour issues, Vaser liposuction will be ineffective.

Having firm, elastic skin aids in the contouring process, as it will reshape itself to the body’s new contours after liposuction, while skin that has lost some of its elasticity due to ageing, weight loss, or stretch marks may need extra surgery to tighten it. Vaser Lipo is also unable to improve cellulite.

For most patients, the skin tends to tighten shortly after the procedure. Therefore, patients can expect to see some results over a short period of time, generally after 6 weeks. However, it’s important to remember that the best results can be seen several months after the procedure, because the body needs a significant amount of time to heal. In some cases it may take up to 6 months, and results can differ.

You can expect reasonable pain and discomfort, typically requiring 4-7 days off work. You will also need to wear a compression garment for 6 weeks.

The follow-up care will also require systematic lymphatic drainage massage within the first 2 weeks.

You should avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for two to three weeks and wear a compression garment for six to eight weeks following surgery to help the skin conform to your new body shape.  Your surgeon will give you a recovery plan for best results and the nursing staff will make you comfortable.

The swelling that occurs due to vaper liposuction usually recedes in about 24 days. The normal time period required for the bruising to subside is generally 16 days. Again, about 16 days are required for patients to get over the numbness in areas where the therapy has been done. This treatment does not have any such harsh implications but a person requires about 3 week time to get over the initial side-effects.

Vaser liposuction scars
What is the scarring like after Vaser Liposuction?

You will have small puncture wounds at the sites of the areas being treated. There will be more than one incision as the cannula is inserted from more than one point on the body but these tend to heal up well leaving a small undetectable mark on the skin.

Vaser liposuction Venus dimples

Venus dimples (named after the Roman goddess of beauty) are little back dimples that appear where the two pelvic bones are connected. These two small indentations on the lower back cannot be achieved with exercise. Inspired by many models and celebrities, women are going under the knife to recreate the small indents in their lower back.

In the Vaser lipo treatment to artificially create Venus dimples, the surgeon will first make a small incision less than 1cm across the V-spot area – the curved diamond area in the lower back. Next, a short cannula will be used to deliver ultrasound energy to break down the fat from inside. A suction cannula is then used to absorb the fat and sculpt the V spot area and dimples.

The results will take almost four weeks to show up. The lower back is a beautiful area of the female body and enhancing that spot and sculpting it would make it even more striking.
